I am currently sitting on the couch after my first day of work, watching Justin cook away in the kitchen :) I have forgotten what it feels like to stand on your feet for 8 hours a day with no sitting down! I know I shouldn't be complaining because there are nurses reading this who stand on their feet for 12 hours a day!
My first day of work was crazy, but good! I got there and immediately the assistant principal told me it was the perfect day for me to be there because two second grade teachers were out sick, making their TA's the subs and they needed my help in second grade. Let me remind you, I was hired for 3rd and 4th grade. I didn't really get trained in anything, they just pushed me right in there! However, the people that I met and worked with today were WONDERFUL! The ladies in second grade were so sweet and helpful. They made me feel very comfortable and answered any questions I had. My day was busy running all around the second grade classrooms and helping out any way I could. I led 2 guided reading groups, helped the students write fairy tales (Which included helping a little boy add more details to his story. How did I do this? In his fairy tale there was a dragon and he and his brother were defeating the dragon. I asked him how he could add more details? What did the dragon look like? What color? Why was he so bad? What did this boy come up with? The dragon was a tap-dancing dragon that squashed people while he danced- oh the things kids come up with!) I led some small groups with counting money and telling time and of course, lunch duty. It was a very tiring but good day!
A random, small world event happened at work. While I was sitting awkwardly in the teacher's lounge eating lunch and not knowing anyone, I started a conversation with another TA. Through our conversation we learned that she lived in Hudson, OH (my hometown) for a couple years and her daughter probably went to the same schools I did! Small world!
Ok... this post was suppose to be about food, I'll stop talking about my day.
Last week I made this for dinner!
Chicken Madeira! This is the most popular dish at the Cheesecake Factory. I decided to replicate the dish with the the chicken recipe and smashed potatoes! The verdict- it was so DELICIOUS! Here are the recipes for the two dishes:
Chicken Madeira
* I used the cornstarch to thicken the sauce.
Smashed Potatoes with Roasted Garlic
So what do you think? Does it look like the original? ;)
2 things....1.you said it perfectly because that's what I was thinking....about the nurses being on their feet for 12 hours! haha I'm glad you had a good first day, even though you didn't call me! 2. That looks absolutely amazing! I can't wait for you to make it for me!! :)
