33 weeks!

How far along: 33 weeks, 5 days.
Baby is the size of a: durian... huh?
Maternity clothes:I started wearing my black athletic pants to school this week. Shhhh.... :) They look almost identical to my black dress pants.
Food cravings: Nope.
Anything make you queasy or sick: I did feel nauseous at the beginning of the week. Not sure if it was the stomach bug or something else.
Miss anything: Nope.
Boy or Girl: Oh Boy!
Movement:Last week little man was active at night. This week, he seems to be very active during the day and more quiet at night. I'm trying to pay attention to see if he is on a certain schedule but it is hard to tell.
Best moment this week: Getting the adorable invitation in the mail for our Northern Baby Shower!! So cute! And... two of my best friends who live out of state called me up to tell me that they can come to the baby shower- so excited!

 how cute are these?!?

Worst moment this week: Teaching....'nuff said.
How have I been feeling: On Monday I was having some pain in my stomach so I called up the doctor's. They told me to take a warm bath, drink lots of water and relax and if  I still had pain to call them the next day. The next day I was having stronger, sharper pain that was coming on and off. I went to the doctor that day and they said thankfully I was not having contractions but that it was due to stress. [School has been extremely stressful lately and I feel like I am on edge for 8 hours a day]. Wednesday was pretty miserable as well. Thankfully, by Thursday I was feeling a little better but I got a call from the doctor that said my labs came back and my hemoglobin and potassium were low and they wanted me to come back in to re-draw some labs. They recommended that I take an iron supplement for the hemoglobin and were going to re-check my potassium. Still waiting to hear back. I am also t.i.r.e.d.
Other tidbits:
  • I made a to-do list of everything I want to get done before the baby arrives and organized it by weeks. I am feeling a tad overwhelmed with everything that needs to get done.
  • I feel the urge to 'nest' or organize stuff but I am way too tired to actually get up and do anything and with us also moving, it is kind of pointless.
  • We picked out a color for the baby room. We did not purchase the paint but have the swatch all ready to go.
  • I bought some stuff to make some artwork for the baby room. It has to do with his name so it will not be revealed until after he is born.
  • My husband is starting to take over my body pillow in the middle of the night.
  • We are officially moving out of our apartment by April 5th and we do not know where we are moving yet......
  • I have been to the doctor's office three times since my last blog post.
  • Did you know that dried apricots have potassium? I HATE bananas and so I have been snacking on these to get my potassium up.
Looking forward to: School baby shower this week and Dr. Seuss's birthday/Read Across America day is on Friday- I have a fun outfit planned with two other teachers who are preggers :)
    Countdowns:
    • Days until due date: 45!
    • Days left of teaching:25
    • Days until Northern Baby Shower: 13!

    Southern Baby Shower: The Aftermath!

Surprisingly, we were able to fit all of our gifts into Justin's fit. As he always likes to say, "The Fit is Go!" With all the seats down, all the boxes were strategically arranged and made the drive over to our little one-bedroom apartment.

Since we live in a one-bedroom apartment (but only for 47 more days at the latest- more on that later) we really did not have a whole lot of space to put all of the baby stuff. We first just unloaded it and stacked it in the corner of our dining room, which then blocked the laundry room door.

The night after the shower, my sister Jen and I had fun going through all the gifts and organizing them into their specific categories. Have I mentioned that I am Type A?

     Baby boy clothes

     Diapers- 360 in all!

     Toys

Bath and hygiene on left: feeding and kitchen on right

     Stuffed animals and books

After working and being gone for 10+ hours a day, I basically just come home nowadays, change into my comfies and make camp on the couch. Justin has also been extremely busy managing two jobs, graduate school and a pregnant wife. Let's just say that although we are two very orderly, cleanly and slightly OCD people, there are times where we just don't have time to put everything away. One day last week, Justin stepped out of the bathroom and saw the piled up trash around the trashcan, a pile of dirty dishes in the sink and the overwhelming pile of baby items in the laundry room (which was also preventing him from doing laundry). He said that it looked like we lived on an episode of Hoarders. I disagreed and said it wasn't that bad ;)

The next day, he moved all the baby items into our bedroom, so now we have an orderly pile of baby items and boxes lining the wall of our bedroom. I also kept one of the diaper cakes arranged and that is now the centerpiece on our dining table! I still love looking at it and enjoy the aroma of diapers that is filling our apartment.

The crib was left in an office at the ministry building since we absolutely have no space for it right now, although I would love to also have it set up in the corner of our bedroom.

I am so thankful for all the gifts that we received for this little boy! I am eagerly waiting to actually take everything out of the boxes and put the car seat in my car, wash the itty-bitty clothes, and place everything in the right spot. We just have to wait a tad longer to see where exactly that right spot is ;)

    Southern Baby Shower: The Party!

See Part I for the amazing decorations!

After I was able to soak in all the incredible decorations, it was time to start the party! One of the reasons why I was so excited for this baby shower was because family and friends from across the state and out-of-state were traveling to us, just to celebrate our little boy! I was looking forward to seeing everyone!

The party started with the food, of course! After we were done munching, my dad was the MC and had a few shower games for us to play. The first game was a baby name- word association game. He would give clues and people had to shout out the correct name. For example: First month of summer: June. Next, he had a biblical, name the parents or the baby game. He gave the name of the parents in the Bible and you had to shout out the name, or vice versa. Some were pretty easy, but others were pretty tricky. We had some smart people in the audience, however, who were not stumped and were able to rattle them off! The last game was Baby Taboo. We were divided into three teams and a member from the team had to go up and give clues to the mystery word. All of them were baby related. The games were creative and it was fun to laugh and fellowship with everyone. Sorry Jess- no melted candy bar in diaper game ;)

    With the cake baker!

After the games, we opened our gifts for the little man! We received all sorts of toys and books, and necessities such as strollers, car seat, high chair and clothes. It really hit me opening up all the gifts that these were for our baby. Registering for the items or even seeing them on the registry online, they really don't have too much meaning. But looking over everything and picturing your own baby in that bouncer, or that swing, or in that outfit, it makes it so much for meaningful and special. We went into the shower without much of anything (besides fun outfits that we have been gifted) and now I feel like we have a lot of necessities and are getting ready for this baby. Our family and friends were so generous with their gifts and we are so thankful for every single item.

     Love you Emmy!

Oh yeah- we got Sophie! This little babe is going to love the *taste* of rubber!

     Sing-a-majig
*Weirdest and most amusing toy ever!*

I'm a little bummed that I didn't actually take too many pictures with people. By the time I pulled out my camera, a large part of the party had already left, so here are the photos that I was able to snap before everyone left.

     my brother and niece

     Grandma and Grandpa

Derek and Erica- our good friends and neighbors from Raleigh!

     Powlison Trio

     Love Aunt Jen

     Maternity shoot pose

I love all of them so much!

The 3 incredibly talented party planners!
Thank you for the most wonderful shower :)

     Chris, Tessa and Kaitlin!

So special that they came all the way from Ohio :)

    Southern Baby Shower: The Decorations!

As I begin to write this post, there are really not enough words for me to express the amount of gratitude and love I feel. This baby shower was so special and touching that I cannot say 'thank you' enough. It was the most beautiful party that I have ever been to, and the love that we felt from all of our family and friends was overwhelming. We are truly blessed.

My sister, Jen, and Justin's two sisters, Debbie and Emmy, threw us a baby shower last weekend. Now these three ladies are truly amazing. When you get the three of them together, they are the ultimate party planners. They have impeccable taste and their ideas are so creative. They really think through all the details and make everything so special. We have always said that the three of them should open an event planning business or publish a book because their work is truly that magnificent. As my younger sister put it perfectly, "This baby shower was David Tutera goes  baby showers."

Their theme for the shower was based off of Father of the Bride Part II. When they asked me what I wanted, I told them that I liked the idea of a children's book baby shower. They merged the two together so perfectly and beautifully. They had been planning the shower for some time and had kept everything hush- hush (which is not super easy for these three!) Going into the shower, I really did not know what to expect. I had tried to image what they would do, but I never could really get an idea. The night before the shower, I was so excited that I could barely sleep. I even woke up at 7:00 in the morning and decided to just wake up and get ready because I was so excited.

As Justin and I walked into the building, we were met with eagerly awaiting guests. I wanted to take it all in, so after I said hello to a bunch of people, I was escorted around to see each table and soak in all the details. There were six tables, each with every unique centerpieces that were inspired by a certain children's book or character.

    Table 1: Peter Rabbit
At the center of the table was a diaper cake, topped with a stuffed animal Peter Rabbit. On the cake, were rolled up little onesies and outfits.

Table 2: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
"Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" is Justin's favorite children's book, so I was excited to see this incorporated into the decorations. At the center of the table were beautifully wrapped presents, surrounded by flower arrangements of white roses and blue hydrangeas. Inside the flower arrangements were the cover of the book. I LOVED the flowers. Blue hydrangeas are my favorite flower. They were also our wedding flower, so looking at them also brought back memories of our wedding day. The napkins at the table were tied with raffia (like spaghetti noodles) and had a little note with a picture of a meatball that said, "On top of spaghetti..." Adorable!

    Table 3: Dr. Seuss
No children's book collection would be complete without Dr. Seuss. At the center of this table was another diaper cake that had Dr. Seuss ribbon tied around it and little signs that said, "One Fish" and "Two Fish." The cake was topped with the bottle washing basket that can go in the dishwasher and inside was baby shampoo and body wash and rubber duckies. Rolled up bibs were also placed on top of the cake. I loved these diaper cakes. They were like special presents in of themselves.

    Table 4: Curious George
Everyone's favorite curious monkey was the theme for the next table. There was another diaper cake! This one was decorated with pictures of Curious George, and baby hygiene necessities like baby powder, ointment, and shampoo. The cake was topped with bottles and pacifiers.

Table 5: The Very Hungry Caterpillar
This table was decorated with the beautifully wrapped boxes and floral arrangements as well. Inside the arrangements were pictures of the hungry caterpillar and then him changing into the butterfly. My favorite part of this table were the napkins. Each napkin was tied with a food that the caterpillar had eaten through (watermelon, lollipop, pie, etc). So creative. As Emmy always says, "Love is in the details!"

    Table 6: Winnie the Pooh
The last table was another diaper cake. Yes- that is 4 in all! This cake was topped with a stuffed animal Pooh Bear and was also decorated with rolled up wash clothes, and bath time necessities. Each table was set with beautiful white plates, dessert plates and either tea cups or goblets.

    The Food Table
Since the shower was in the late morning/early afternoon the menu consisted for of a salad bar. There was fruit salad, pasta salad and a variety of green salads with toppings. It was delicious and beautifully displayed.

    The Dessert Table
In Father of the Bride Part II, Fronk comes out during the baby shower with the most amazing cake. The cake is presents staked on top of each other with flowers and blocks. My mom made the entire cake, by herself! Since I have had my share of making tiered cakes for parties before and know the amount of time and energy that goes into making them, it was so special to have her make it. The cake was incredible. It looked exactly like the cake off of the movie!

Last but not least- The MAIN FOCAL POINT of the room.....

    Our CRIB and BEDDING!!

While walking around the tables, I was suddenly stopped and saw what was displayed in the front of the room- our CRIB! I did not see it when we first walked in because there were people in the way. When I saw it, I started tearing up. I was so touched. My sister Jen, Justin's sister, Debbie and his other sister, Emmy's family all contributed and bought us our beautiful crib and bedding. And I must say, I. LOVE IT! L.O.V.E love it! I love looking and it and just picturing out little boy sleeping in it :) I had told Justin a couple days before the shower that my ultimate dream for our baby shower was to walk in and see our crib, or glider, or dresser set up as the focal point of the room, with presents all around it. Since the furniture and bedding are so expensive, I never ever thought that it would happen, and what do you know- it came true!

    Stayed tuned for Part II!!
